You are here

As we begin another school year, your Advanced Learning team is working hard to ensure we meet the needs of every student. There is no question that this will look different than in past school years at MMSD given our current situation of learning virtually during a pandemic. We are also experiencing a time of restructuring among the Advanced Learning team where each Advanced Learning Specialist is covering more schools.

Students looking for an additional challenge in math and/or literacy can look forward to accessing lesson extensions via Seesaw. The Advanced Learning Team will be creating lessons at every elementary grade level that can be used by the core teacher to extend the learning within the virtual classroom.

Students needing to access the next grade level of math standards will join the next grade level during their math time. For example, if a 4th grader needs to access the 5th grade math standards, they will join a 5th grade class from their school during math time, and join the 4th grade class for all other courses. Students will be responsible for the content and assignments in the math class they attend.

Students needing to access middle school level math courses will have math during their school math time. The teacher will be an Advanced Learning Specialist from the district, but not necessarily the Advanced Learning Specialist in their school. All students who fit in this category will receive a separate letter notifying them of their math placement. The middle school level math courses will have students from different school buildings across the district. For example, students from Oak Elementary and Maple Elementary will attend their math course during their scheduled math time taught by an Advanced Learning Specialist, and join their homeroom class for all other courses. Students will be responsible for the content and assignments in the math class they attend.
